Short guide to Italian grants and incentives

National incentives

In Italy, the incentives available for the installation of photovoltaic panels include tax breaks, tax credits and specific subsidies. Currently, these are:

· 2024 Photovoltaic Bonus with the Superbonus (70%)

· 2024 Photovoltaic Bonus with the Renovation Bonus (50%)

· 2024 Photovoltaic Bonus non-repayable grant (Energy income fund)

· CER/REC Decree

· 2024 Energy Decree

· Simplifications Decree Asset

Superbonus 70%

The Superbonus consists of fixed tax deductions (70% for 2024) of the expenses incurred for the installation of photovoltaic systems connected to the grid for

multi-family buildings, with relative storage solutions that might be installed on the subsidized system at the same time or at a later date.

Renovation tax deduction of 50%

The 50% renovation tax deduction  is a 50% IRPEF fiscal detraction for up to a maximum eligible expenditure of 96,000 euros. It covers expenses for works considered building renovations on residential properties, either owned or rented, and includes the installation of photovoltaic panels on roofs, balconies or facades, and their storage systems. The deduction is divided in 10 annual installments of the same amount.

Energy Income Fund

This is a capital grant for low-income households to install domestic photovoltaic panels on homes in order to self-generate electricity. It provides access to renewable energy for individuals who belong to a household with an ISEE of less than 15,000 euros,  or less than 30,000 euros for households with at least four children.

CER/REC Decree (Renewable Energy Communities)

· a 40% capital grant, financed by the PNRR, for RECs whose production plants are located in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.

· subsidized tariffs on renewable energy produced and shared throughout the country, to stimulate the creation and development of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs).

European Grants

Transition 5.0

Provides a non-transferable tax credit. Rates vary based on the reduction in energy consumption and the amount of investments. Investments must ensure a reduction in energy consumption by at least 3%.

Provincial Grants

Provincial grants for energy efficiency and renewable energy measures 2024.
